The so-called ‘ex-law’ may not be formally documented, but Manu Sánchez has certainly rewritten a chapter within this theory. The left-back made a grand return to what was once his home, albeit it was not to deliver good news to Atlético Madrid.

Sánchez, who debuted for the rojiblanco team under coach Simeone in La Liga back in 2019, equalized the scoreline with a well-timed header from a corner kick in the 21st minute of the first half. The defender, hailing from Alcorcón, chose not to celebrate his goal, even going so far as to apologize to the Atlético supporters present at the Metropolitano on Saturday.

After the match, Manu Sánchez provided insight into the final outcome. “We played a great match, but when you face a team like Atlético Madrid, they convert the chances they get, and we did not,” he stated during an interview with Movistar.

Concerning his goal and the decision not to celebrate, he remarked, “I chose not to celebrate due to my history as a player for Atlético Madrid.” He also noted that all three of his goals in La Liga have come from headers.

Levante marked the fourth team he has faced against the Madrid side in his career. He previously confronted them while playing for Osasuna, where he was on loan from Atlético, as well as Celta de Vigo and Deportivo Alavés.

However, despite his numerous encounters with the Madrid squad, he has yet to secure a victory. Out of eight matches played against them, including the latest, he has suffered seven defeats and only managed to achieve a single draw.
