Manuel Pellegrini Reflects on His Contract Renewal with Real BetisManuel Pellegrini Reflects on His Contract Renewal with Real Betis

Minutes after officially renewing his contract for another season with Real Betis until June 30, 2027, Manuel Pellegrini spoke to the club’s official television channel to share his initial thoughts on the agreement, which will extend his total stay at the club to seven years. Pellegrini joined the team in the summer of 2020, leading them to a title and five consecutive qualifications for European competitions.

Expressing his happiness about the renewal, he stated, “I am very pleased. These have been five spectacular years, not only due to our sporting achievements but also because of the support we have received. A significant amount of work has been done collectively by the management, coaching staff, players, and fans to elevate Betis to its rightful position, as a great institution with passionate supporters. Therefore, my priority was to continue here, and I am very glad we reached an agreement.”

He emphasized that his priority was to remain with the club: “Yes, I believe that when one stays at a club for such a long time, as I have at Betis, the club’s priority should come first. I have always said that it is important for me to end my career in a way that allows me to coach the national team, possibly during a World Cup or a Copa America. We will see if that opportunity arises in the future, but I have always maintained that my priority is Betis, as it is where I belong, and I have received tremendous support over these six seasons.”

Pellegrini expressed gratitude for the club’s confidence in his work: “Absolutely. Since we started, we have not had any major issues. There may be some differences in various circumstances, but I have always felt their support and the intention to renew my contract. I believe we are on the right track, driven by ambition and the desire to continue growing Betis.”

He acknowledged the admiration he has received from fans: “I am very happy about that. I have always felt their backing whenever I walk through the streets of Seville or in the stadium. The fans reflect the affection they have for me, and I must, of course, repay that with results and success for such a demanding fanbase.”

Addressing the unfortunate situation with Isco and Amrabat, he said, “Yes, I believe we have always tried to project calmness. We have never discussed players unavailable for important matches, and we have faced many injuries this season, yet the team has managed to move forward. Undoubtedly, not having key players like Isco and Sofyan Amrabat, alongside injuries to Gio Lo Celso, Héctor Bellerín, and Pau López, is significant. However, as I have said many times, we have a squad capable of winning matches. The players are confident and ready to pursue three points from the first minute in this derby, which is vital for the city and our supporters.”

Regarding the depth of the squad, he commented, “This is what we have aimed for, and I believe it has allowed us to be competitive in the three competitions we are currently engaged in. Fortunately, we are well placed in the Europa League, aiming to qualify in the top eight, still progressing in the Copa del Rey, and maintaining European positions in the league standings. This has been achieved through rotations and a committed squad, with players ready to step up. I am confident we will see the same level of performance this Sunday.”

Lastly, he shared his contentment living in Seville: “Yes, indeed. I have spent many years in Spain. I was fortunate to arrive in 2004, spending five years at Villarreal, one year in Madrid, three years in Málaga, and now six seasons in Seville. Undoubtedly, Seville is a wonderful city to live in, with great weather and close proximity to my home in Marbella. Therefore, I have very few complaints about the city and the team during these six spectacular years.”
