Marc-André Ter Stegen, the Girona goalkeeper on loan from Barcelona, is scheduled to undergo surgery this Friday for a left hamstring injury incurred during the match against Oviedo at Carlos Tartiere. Following the procedure, a precise timeline for his recovery will be established, with estimates ranging from 3 to 4 months.

If his long-term absence is confirmed, Girona will have had the opportunity to utilize the German goalkeeper in just two matches: against Getafe and Oviedo. This setback represents a significant blow to the club’s financial and sporting plans, as they strive for survival in the league, despite covering only 10 percent of Ter Stegen’s salary until June.

This injury is also a significant disappointment for Ter Stegen, who had joined the Catalan club to prepare for the upcoming World Cup with Germany, especially following Manuel Neuer’s retirement. His chances of participating in the tournament have now diminished. It’s worth noting that Ter Stegen underwent back surgery last summer, which sidelined him for four months.

Although there is a possibility that he could recover in time for the World Cup, he may lack competitive match fitness. Over the past two years, Ter Stegen has faced a series of serious injuries, including issues with his knee, back, and now a hamstring injury, marking a challenging period in his career.
