The final straw for the board arose from revelations that Maresca had engaged in discussions with Manchester City and Juventus regarding future positions, which Chelsea deemed disrespectful. His last act as head coach was to skip the post-match press conference following a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, citing illness, although he later suggested this was a facade as he left without addressing his players.

He stated, “When you take on that role, you must understand you are entering a very different football club in terms of its management approach.
