The speculation surrounding Enzo Maresca’s position at Chelsea is intensifying following a disappointing conclusion to 2025. During December, the team managed only two victories in eight matches across all competitions, with one of these wins occurring against League One’s Cardiff in the Carabao Cup. This left just a solitary Premier League triumph at home against Everton.

Despite having previously earned credit for leading Chelsea to success in the Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup last season, as well as securing Champions League qualification, Maresca is now testing the patience of club executives.

According to TEAMtalk, high-ranking sources at Stamford Bridge believe that Maresca is “managing his situation” effectively. They recognize the challenges he faces in juggling multiple competitions while also managing a significantly young squad, the youngest in the English top tier.

However, Maresca’s recent comments prior to the Everton match hinted at underlying issues within the club. He suggested that the support from the boardroom is not at the level it should be, given his accomplishments. These remarks reportedly took Chelsea officials by surprise, particularly shocking owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, who were left feeling upset and annoyed. They have made it clear that they will not tolerate any questioning of their management.

TEAMtalk’s source remarked, “Things have turned on their head; those quotes from Enzo have gone down really badly. The credit he had built up during his first 18 months is now all but gone.”

There is a growing belief within BlueCo that they have an internal candidate ready to step up, namely Liam Rosenior, who is currently managing Chelsea’s sister club, Strasbourg. Rosenior has demonstrated impressive leadership in France, showcasing a philosophy that resonates with both players and management in west London.

Rosenior has articulated his beliefs on the Premier League’s official website: “I believe in taking risks, playing from the back, dominating possession, and allowing players to express themselves with the ball. Mistakes are part of the process, and I know our players will learn from them.”

On his management philosophy, he stated, “Management brings sleepless nights, but with experience, I understand that I cannot control every outcome. I focus on the process, striving to enjoy each moment without getting caught up in distant targets.”

Rosenior, who served as an assistant to Wayne Rooney at Derby before taking on a managerial role himself, has not yet coached in the Premier League. However, he has played at that level with clubs such as Fulham, Reading, Hull City, and Brighton.

Currently under contract with Strasbourg until 2028, where his team sits seventh in Ligue 1, Rosenior could be a viable option for Chelsea if Maresca were to part ways with the club.
