Matarazzo Praises Oyarzabal and Team’s Effort After Victory

Pellegrino Matarazzo congratulated his team following their victory against Celta, praising Mikel Oyarzabal as a key player in their success. He also expressed appreciation for the dedication of all the players and the fervent support from the fans in the stands.

Entering the press conference, Matarazzo was still immersed in the excitement of the match. “How do I explain the game? It was a very balanced match, and it wasn’t easy to gain possession. We were aware that there would be phases requiring us to defend deeply, and we have improved in that aspect of the game. In the second half, we played with one less player, but we executed our defensive block effectively, conceding few chances. When asked about Oyarzabal and his significance to Real Sociedad, Matarazzo remarked, “Firstly, I want to emphasize the performance of the entire team, not just Mikel, although he is indeed a special player with fantastic contributions. I knew of him before joining, but I did not fully grasp the importance of his leadership in the dressing room. He is the leader, understands the game well, and knows how to connect with everyone. He was also questioned about the notable change in the team’s morale since his arrival. “Everything is interconnected. You need clarity in how you want to play football, and when that is clear, you have more energy. We also emphasize certain mental aspects. Offensive and defensive transitions, with and without the ball—everyone has their role. What we have demonstrated in recent matches is crucial, particularly our ability to react quickly after conceding a goal and scoring again, and today even a third. I am very thankful to be part of this team.”

The impressive performance of Odriozola was another topic of discussion during his conference. “We are delighted with ‘Odri’. He has been performing exceptionally well, seizing the opportunity presented to him. We rewarded his effort with another chance, and he delivered once again.
