Matarazzo Reflects on First Win with Real SociedadMatarazzo Reflects on First Win with Real Sociedad

Pellegrino Matarazzo expressed his satisfaction with the response of his players after the 1-1 draw against Getafe, which was rewarded with a goal from Jon Mikel Aramburu, leading to their first victory under his guidance at Real Sociedad. However, he lamented the missed chances that could have allowed them to win more decisively and with less struggle.

Reflecting on this initial triumph, Matarazzo stated, “Winning is always gratifying, especially in a challenging match as we anticipated. However, we could have made our lives easier by scoring a second goal with the opportunities we had in the second half. Although we conceded the equalizer late in the game, it was encouraging to see the players respond by creating successive chances to secure the win. Their desire and determination to win were evident, and we are proud of that.”

The txuriurdin coach emphasized the eagerness of his players to reclaim the two points they were close to losing during stoppage time. “It unfolded as we imagined, with second balls, long passes, and crosses. We expected a challenging playing field, so the focus was on hard work and securing the victory, regardless of how it came about. I need not elaborate on my feelings when Getafe scored; I was clearly not pleased. However, one must remain focused on the game, encouraging the players to push forward for a win. The situations we faced after the equalizer demonstrated our determination to win, and ultimately, we did.”

Matarazzo is aware that his team must continue to improve both in terms of gameplay and standings. “The players are connected, and we have clarity about how we want to play. Nonetheless, there is much room for improvement. While there are several positive aspects, enhancing our performances will inevitably lead to more points.”
