Matías Almeyda spoke to the media today following the final training session at the training ground before tomorrow’s match against Elche. He addressed the anticipated arrival of Akor and Ejuke, two offensive players who are expected to enhance the team. “We have struggled to convert opportunities into goals in recent matches, which is a point of concern for us. Although we have created chances, we are diligently working on finding different ways to score. This is an area we need to improve,” he stated.

Regarding the club’s financial situation, Almeyda reiterated, “I will repeat what I have said before. To make new signings, the club needs to be in a better economic state than it currently is. Therefore, in order to bring players in, we must first sell. This is our reality. I do not make excuses; I have not done so from day one and will not do so until the end. We have a group of players that we are building trust with, and although we require a sense of calm and unity, we also need to work on improving various aspects of our game. I refuse to dwell on thoughts that are currently unrealistic.”

On the team’s standing in the league, he remarked, “These are delicate moments that we must navigate. It’s essential to remain calm, but this calmness should not equate to complacency. We must stay alert, conscious, and work diligently to reverse our current situation through communication and effort. While it’s easy to focus on the negative aspects, I aim to maintain an optimistic outlook. If we secure a victory and earn three points, we can place ourselves in a more favorable position within the league. We are striving to avoid the precarious situation we find ourselves in, but we must also recognize that there is still a long journey ahead and one match cannot define our fight until the end of the season.”

When asked about the possibility of playing Akor and Ejuke together, Almeyda responded, “I find it somewhat challenging at this point, as they both traveled today. We need to assess their condition before making any decisions. However, I am confident that I will be able to count on them during the match. I am uncertain if they will start from the first minute or come on in the second half, but what is promising is that we will have two offensive players available from the bench, which we haven’t had in previous games.”

Finally, regarding the future of Gattoni, he concluded, “No decisions have been made at this time. We will evaluate the situation in the coming days concerning both Fede’s position within the club and his contract status.”
