Matías Almeyda’s Press Conference Following Sevilla’s Defeat to Espanyol

Matías Almeyda addressed the media following the match between Espanyol and Sevilla at the RCDE Stadium. Sevilla suffered its seventh defeat of the season in LaLiga EA Sports, losing 2-1 despite creating significantly more scoring opportunities than their opponents.

He remarked, “I think the first half was good, with clear actions and good control. We were unable to open the scoring, and in football, it’s about scoring goals.”

On the team’s reaction, Almeyda noted, “The second half began with an avoidable situation; we conceded the first goal, and that changed the dynamics of the match. Nevertheless, the team responded well, but we made mistakes leading to the second goal. We managed to score one, but it was too late.”

Regarding the team’s overall performance, he stated, “I believe today we played one of our best matches, despite the result. The reality is that we had many goal-scoring opportunities that needed to be converted; we lacked clarity in several instances, and in others, we faced an excellent goalkeeper.”

On the injuries to Januzaj and Vargas, he mentioned, “Both experienced muscular discomfort. We will know the severity of their conditions once the examinations are conducted tomorrow.”
