Mateta s Future Uncertain Amid Transfer SpeculationsMateta s Future Uncertain Amid Transfer Speculations

omidbasir- In a recent press conference, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner addressed the situation surrounding forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, confirming that he will not be included in the squad for the match against Nottingham Forest. Glasner emphasized that this decision is not influenced by the transfer speculation linking Mateta with several clubs, including Nottingham Forest, who have shown interest in signing him this month.

Mateta, who has scored a total of 10 goals across all competitions this season, has not found the net since January 1. He communicated his desire to leave Crystal Palace on January 21, following a series of disappointing performances and a decline in the team’s form during the busy festive period.

Interest from clubs such as Juventus and Nottingham Forest has emerged, with AC Milan reportedly submitting a loan offer with an obligation to purchase for £35 million ($48 million) in the summer. Glasner reiterated during his press conference, “It has nothing to do with transfers right now. He is not in the right place to play, and it makes no sense to risk his well-being for the team’s benefit. We need every player performing at their best, and JP isn’t at that level due to the surrounding noise.”

Additionally, Crystal Palace has already seen the departure of captain Marc Guehi to Manchester City for £20 million ($27.4 million) this month. Glasner himself announced his impending departure from the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. Mateta’s announcement of his wish to leave has compounded the challenges facing the club in a tumultuous January.

While Palace has yet to sign a replacement for Guehi, they have secured the signing of Brennan Johnson and are reportedly pursuing Premier League forwards Jorgen Strand Larsen and Evann Guessand. Glasner commented on the club’s efforts to bolster the squad, stating, “The club is working tirelessly to recruit new players, especially following Guehi’s exit. We must also be prepared for the possibility of Mateta leaving.”

He added, “It is possible that Mateta remains a Palace player beyond February 2, but he may also depart, necessitating the immediate acquisition of a new striker.” As the transfer window approaches its conclusion, Crystal Palace’s activity in the market could significantly shape the remainder of their season, especially in light of the pressing need to fill the gap left by Guehi and potentially Mateta.
