Maupay s Transfer to Sevilla A New Chapter in His CareerMaupay s Transfer to Sevilla A New Chapter in His Career

omidbasir- Neal Maupay’s transfer to Sevilla provides a much-needed opportunity for the 29-year-old forward, whose career had hit a plateau during his time with Les Olympiens. After an initial loan from Everton in the 2024-25 season, where he scored four goals in 22 league appearances for Marseille, Maupay secured a permanent transfer for £6 million. However, it soon became clear that he would not be a significant part of manager Roberto De Zerbi’s plans, especially with the arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Timothy Weah.

So far this season, Maupay has made only three appearances, scoring once. Despite rumors linking him to several clubs, including Sassuolo in Italy and PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece, none of these transfers materialized.

His move to Sevilla has allowed him to engage in playful banter with his new teammates. To announce his signing, the club shared a light-hearted tweet referencing a pre-season friendly between Marseille and Sevilla, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Maupay came on as a late substitute for Mason Greenwood in that match. The tweet humorously stated, “Whenever Neal Maupay comes on and doesn’t score, the social media manager smiles,” which was creatively used in Maupay’s reveal video. Following this, the striker posted a positive twist on the original message, flashing a broad smile and giving a thumbs-up to the camera.

On his personal social media account, Maupay humorously inquired about the location of the club’s admin office, expressing a desire to “just talk.” Less than an hour later, he playfully responded to the club’s admin.

While this amusing announcement provided a light moment for Sevilla fans, they will be eagerly anticipating Maupay’s contributions in the coming months. Sevilla has faced challenges this season, currently positioned in 12th place in La Liga. Akor Adams and Isaac Romero have been leading the attack, with Adams as the club’s top scorer, netting six goals despite missing a portion of January due to AFCON duties. Maupay is expected to receive playing time and was brought in to intensify competition for spots in Matias Almeyda’s squad.

Maupay’s first chance to impress his new team may come on February 2, with an away match against Mallorca. His inaugural appearance at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium is anticipated on February 7, as Sevilla hosts Girona. Given the club’s history of success in European competitions over the past two decades, there is hope that their new signing can help propel them toward qualification for next season’s continental tournaments, especially as they currently trail Real Betis by eight points in the standings.
