omidbasir- Mexico will commence their World Cup journey on June 11, facing the South African national football team at the Estadio Azteca, which will become the first stadium in history to host three men’s World Cups.

To prepare for this significant event, El Tri will compete against Ghana on May 22 in Mexico, with the specific venue yet to be finalized. Following this, they will travel to California to take on Australia on May 30, before returning home for a farewell match against Serbia on June 4, also at an as-yet-unannounced location. Notably, both Australia and Ghana have qualified for the 2026 tournament, while Serbia did not succeed in Europe’s competitive qualifying rounds.

These matches are part of an already packed schedule. Mexico will face the Iceland national football team on February 25 at Estadio La Corregidora in Querétaro. Later, in March, El Tri is slated to compete against the Portugal national football team at Estadio Banorte and the Belgium national football team at Soldier Field in Chicago.

According to Ivar Sisniega, Executive President of the Mexican Football Federation, there are no alternative venues being considered for Mexico’s friendly match against Portugal on March 28. This comes amid reports from Portugal concerning potential construction delays at Estadio Banorte—previously known as Estadio Azteca. Nonetheless, Sisniega has confirmed that the match will proceed as scheduled.

“There is no Plan B,” Sisniega stated, assuring that the game will take place at the renovated Mexico City venue despite recent speculation regarding its readiness.

Mexico’s February 25 match against Iceland in Querétaro will exclusively feature players from Liga MX.
