Mexico s Roster Announced for Upcoming International FriendliesMexico s Roster Announced for Upcoming International Friendlies

Manager Javier Aguirre has officially announced Mexico’s roster for the upcoming international friendlies against Panama and Bolivia, scheduled for January 22 and 25, respectively. This roster marks the initiation of a vital pre-World Cup cycle, during which Aguirre aims to evaluate player depth and team chemistry ahead of the 2026 tournament.

Due to the matches falling outside a FIFA international window, Aguirre was unable to call up players based in Europe. Consequently, the squad consists solely of Liga MX players, with clubs granting special permission for player releases. Chivas leads the roster with eight selections, while América, Cruz Azul, Toluca, and Monterrey contribute three players each. Notably, Toluca forward Alexis Vega has been excluded from the squad due to injury, following arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, which is expected to sideline him for approximately six weeks, thereby ruling him out of the January fixtures as he continues his recovery.

Mexico will engage in both January friendlies on the road, a deliberate decision by Aguirre to challenge his players in hostile environments. El Tri is set to face Panama in Panama City on January 22, followed by a match against Bolivia in Santa Cruz three days later. Additionally, the national team will host Iceland in Querétaro on February 25 as part of its ongoing preparation efforts.
