Mexx Meerdink Returns to AZ Squad for Ajax Match

Mexx Meerdink has made his return to the AZ selection following a prolonged period of injury. The forward from the Alkmaar team will be listed on the match sheet for the upcoming game against Ajax.

Interim coach Leeroy Echteld confirmed that Meerdink is available for selection against Ajax, as reported by Noordhollands Dagblad. The striker sustained his injury just before he was poised to make his debut for the Dutch national team in October, which sidelined him for an extended duration. Now, he may be ready to gain some playing time, possibly through a brief appearance as a substitute.

However, Echteld will likely not have the services of rising star Kees Smit for the match against Ajax. The midfielder, who is highly sought after by numerous top European clubs, is still in the recovery phase. When asked about Smit’s fitness, Echteld stated, “We will make a decision on Saturday.”
