Mika Godts Eyes Leadership Role Amidst Transfer RumorsMika Godts Eyes Leadership Role Amidst Transfer Rumors

Mika Godts is gaining attention for a potential move up the ranks, thanks to an outstanding first half of the season. This week, ESPN reported that he appears to be becoming increasingly unstoppable for the Amsterdam club.

In a conversation with Algemeen Dagblad regarding the transfer rumors, Godts stated, “That is not certain yet. It is really far off at this point.” So far this season, he has recorded eight goals and seven assists in seventeen appearances. “We will see where the tally ends. I knew that if I remained fit, my statistics would also improve. It’s challenging to consistently deliver results when faced with injuries every couple of months.” Godts acknowledges that he is now performing well both physically and mentally. “That is where it all begins, I know that now. I am trying to maintain this to demonstrate that I have genuinely made progress this season.”

Godts aspires to take on a leadership role in Amsterdam. “I am actively working on it.” Coach Fred Grim has identified him, along with Youri Baas and Youri Regeer, as potential new leaders of Ajax. Godts remarked, “I believe that among our number of matches, we are among the more experienced players. I am not a natural leader, but I strive to be positive and assist my teammates.”

However, his reaction to being substituted against AZ, along with his gestures towards Davy Klaassen during that cup match, revealed a lack of leadership. “Such things simply happen. In the heat of the moment, discussions arise regarding lost possession and the foul that preceded it. Davy tries to jolt me back to reality with his experience. I need to stay positive and accept it, especially from older players like him. We discussed it immediately afterward. Criticism will always come, even when things are going well. I try to shut it out because I know it won’t help me.”
