Mikey Moore scored his third goal for Rangers in the recent Old Firm victory against Celtic, drawing admiration from former forward Jermain Defoe, who highlighted Moore’s special talent.

Moore, who has competed in 24 matches since joining Rangers on a season-long loan from Tottenham, achieved a significant milestone by netting the third goal in their 3-1 triumph at Celtic Park on Saturday.

Defoe, who played a crucial role in Moore’s move to the club, remarked on their connection, having guided the young talent during his time coaching at the Spurs academy. “What a story that is,” Defoe stated, reflecting on his experience with Moore when he was just 16. “As soon as I saw him in training, I thought, ‘this kid’s got something special.’ I made an effort to support him as much as I could.”

Defoe recalled receiving a call from Moore over the summer, expressing his opportunity to join Rangers. “I told him he had to seize the chance to experience what I did there. Trust me, he would love it,” Defoe said.

Following the match, Defoe expressed his pride in Moore’s performance, noting, “It’s amazing to see him score in this game. I will message him shortly. He must be ecstatic; he’s just a young kid who loves football, and he will be buzzing after this.”

The victory not only marks a significant achievement for Moore but also propels Rangers into a competitive stance in the league, now level on points with Celtic after a challenging start to the season under Russell Martin. The team’s resurgence has been attributed to the new management of Danny Rohl, who has instilled consistency that positions Rangers back in the title race.

Defoe emphasized the importance of the win, particularly given the struggles faced by both clubs. “This result is monumental because they are now level on points. The way Rangers won this match is huge for everyone associated with the club and its supporters. It’s one of the biggest fixtures in world football.”

John Souttar, a center-back for Rangers, echoed Defoe’s sentiments, stating on Rangers TV, “We possess experience within the squad, which is crucial for guiding younger players. The atmosphere can be daunting, but we stood firm today. Everyone rose to the occasion, showing intensity on and off the ball.”

Souttar further praised the supporters, noting the special atmosphere and the importance of building on this momentum for future success. “We need to maintain this progress, adhere to the manager’s directives, and see where this journey leads us.”
