omidbasir- Monchi recently appeared on the podcast La Tasca, discussing various aspects of his career and current affairs. Among the many topics covered, one of the most anticipated was the potential acquisition of Sevilla FC by a group led by Sergio Ramos. “He has experience, and beyond everything that has happened, I know he is a true Sevillista, which is why he returned last year. If he has the necessary financial backing, as one must buy shares to proceed, and he wants to dedicate himself to this…” he began.

“In these situations, and I do not refer specifically to Sergio Ramos, there is no president who can achieve anything solely on their own. Projects are inherently plural rather than singular. I have no insight into Sergio’s project, but he hasn’t been in this for just a couple of days,” Monchi continued, expressing confidence that Ramos would surround himself with knowledgeable individuals to assist in management. “As someone who oversees a very small football club, I rely on experts in marketing, security, or media; it is crucial not only to have your own capabilities but also to have the right team around you. Projects have many contributors for both the good and the bad,” he argued.

Monchi speculated that “if Sergio has become involved in this endeavor, he did so with informed intent.” Regarding Ramos’ motivations for wanting to lead Sevilla, Monchi expressed a clear perspective: “He has achieved everything possible at Real Madrid, but he did not have that opportunity in Sevilla as he left just before. Thus, he may have that extra motivation. He is a person with a healthy ego and significant fortune; perhaps he thinks, ‘I believe I can make Sevilla a champion.'”

As expected, Monchi also addressed the current situation of Sevilla. “I am quite detached from non-sporting matters, which allows me to speak normally and calmly. My primary concern is the sporting aspect because I am a Sevillista. I believe the club is in good hands with Matías, who is a competent coach and has a good grasp of the locker room dynamics; one only needs to observe how the players celebrate or react in defeat,” he remarked, sharing that he celebrated Vitor Reis’s goal against Girona enthusiastically, “as if it were San Fernando, because the Getafe draw was not unfavorable.”

“In the past, I suffered more because, in addition to being a Sevillista, I was also the sporting director, but I clearly have moments of distress,” Monchi admitted. However, he clarified that he currently has no intentions of becoming involved in the club’s immediate future: “There is more gossip than anything else. My concern lies with Sevilla’s future: whether the current Board of Directors will remain or if a new investor will emerge… this is normal. But I have no interest in having privileged information.”
