Morgan Gibbs-White transferred to Nottingham Forest following their return to the Premier League in 2022, leaving Wolves in a significant deal. This platform provided him with the opportunity to demonstrate his playmaking abilities at the highest level.

In 2023, Gibbs-White celebrated success at the European U21 Championship, adding to his accolades from being an U17 World Cup champion with England. His debut for the senior team occurred in September 2024 under interim head coach Lee Carsley, who previously managed him at the U21 level.

Currently, Gibbs-White has earned six caps for England, having played under Thomas Tuchel as well. However, he was notably absent from the last squad selection and has not participated in any of the team’s last three matches. The competition for spots within the No.10 position is fierce, with notable players such as Jude Bellingham, Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, and Phil Foden vying for inclusion.

Collymore, a former Forest forward, believes Gibbs-White should be included in England’s World Cup plans. In a statement made in collaboration with BetWright betting, he noted: “I think Jude is untouchable. Gibbs-White should get into the squad. It may sound unconventional, but he offers a unique skill set.”

Collymore continued: “When considering the midfielders available to England, you have Declan Rice, who is performing exceptionally well, alongside Elliott Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Bellingham. Gibbs-White faces stiff competition, especially with the prospect of Foden also being categorized as a midfielder, potentially bringing the total to six contenders.

“I do wonder if Thomas Tuchel will prioritize adding more strikers to the squad, which may lead to a midfielder being left out. Players like John Stones, who can advance the ball from defense into midfield, provide additional tactical flexibility.”

He further emphasized, “For me, Morgan Gibbs-White deserves a spot in the squad because he brings something different. Particularly in the challenging conditions of the U.S., having a fresh player who can unlock defenses and create scoring opportunities late in matches is crucial. I hope Thomas Tuchel shares this perspective.”

Collymore expressed confidence in the likelihood that Rice and Bellingham will be the preferred starters, with Anderson playing a deeper role. However, he remains a strong advocate for Gibbs-White’s inclusion. “If you place him in the attacking third and instruct him to create opportunities, he will excel. Historically, England struggles to generate chances in tournaments, so I firmly believe he should be included in the squad, though whether he starts is another question.”

Gibbs-White had an impressive season with Forest, helping them secure European qualification, which has earned him further recognition from the national team. This season has presented more challenges, as the club navigates through three managerial changes and finds itself embroiled in another relegation battle.

As a player who often dons the captain’s armband and recently signed a new contract amidst transfer speculation in 2025, Gibbs-White is expected to lead by example and deliver impactful performances. With a Europa League match against Portuguese side Braga on the horizon, strong performances could solidify his place in Tuchel’s considerations as England approaches what may be Gibbs-White’s first senior international tournament.
