Nagelsmann Comments on Stiller s Absence from National TeamNagelsmann Comments on Stiller s Absence from National Team

Julian Nagelsmann, the head coach of the German national team, has provided insights regarding the absence of Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller from the latest round of call-ups. During a DFB press conference, Nagelsmann discussed the rationale behind Stiller not being selected and how Stuttgart players, including head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, managed the situation with the media.

“We have Felix Nmecha from Borussia Dortmund playing in the number six position, who is enjoying an excellent season, alongside Aleksandar Pavlovic from Bayern Munich, representing one of the most stable teams in Europe at the moment,” Nagelsmann remarked. “I believe they are slightly ahead in terms of performance. Additionally, we have Nadiem Amiri and Leon Goretzka who offer a more offensive approach in the same position.”

Nagelsmann noted, “In October, we had five defensive midfielders, three of whom, including Angelo, did not see any playing time. We had an excess of defensive midfielders, leading to a lack of balance in the squad. Now, we have precisely two players for each position. I had a productive conversation with Angelo and VfB Stuttgart’s head coach, Sebastian Hoeneß, regarding this matter.”

He added, “It is my responsibility to clarify such decisions to a player, though it isn’t necessarily the duty of a coach. Nonetheless, I valued the opportunity to discuss this with Sebastian, given our good rapport. I also reassured him that I bear no ill feelings regarding the comments made after the Stuttgart Europa League match. Angelo is a crucial player for VfB, and it is important for the club to support their athletes.”

Nagelsmann concluded, “The door remains open for Angelo, and there is no need for any drama surrounding this situation.”
