omidbasir- Ajax has become increasingly ‘ungovernable,’ according to journalists Jop van Kempen and Bas Soetenhorst in their latest episode of the podcast Branie.

Soetenhorst opens the discussion by stating, “The problem of Ajax’s ungovernability lies within the organization itself, which interferes with numerous issues.” He elaborates, “The lines of communication are intertwined, creating an informal network where everyone endlessly communicates through messaging and calls. Once you get caught in this web, it becomes challenging to understand the full scope of what is happening around you. These informal channels make Ajax exceptionally difficult to govern.”

Van Kempen shifts focus towards potential solutions, saying, “One option could be to amend the organization’s statutes. This amendment could position the association at a greater distance from operational matters. Currently, the statutes state that the association is responsible for changes within the youth academy, meaning every time Marijn Beuker wants to implement reforms, he must seek approval from the board. If we could reframe this as more of a corporate responsibility, the role of the association would be somewhat diminished.”
