NEC Secures Narrow Victory Against PEC Zwolle Amidst Fan Discontent

NEC converted their home match against PEC Zwolle into a victory on Saturday evening, winning 2-1. However, the manner of the win was far from convincing, prompting frustration from head coach Dick Schreuder and several players regarding the critical attitude of their own supporters.

During the match, there was a significant amount of whistling and booing from the crowd. In an interview with De Gelderlander, Schreuder remarked, “Perhaps the supporters have become a bit spoiled. Yes, we played poorly, but we exhibited tremendous fighting spirit. I believe we deserve the support of our fans in those moments, yet it was often quite silent in the stands.”

Players also expressed their dissatisfaction with the crowd’s response. Basar Önal demonstrated his discontent by placing a finger to his lips during the game. Afterward, the NEC forward reflected on this action, expressing regret. “I thought to myself: even when things aren’t going well, just support us. There was no reason for the early whistles.”
