Neymar s Future MLS Potential After Santos Contract ExtensionNeymar s Future MLS Potential After Santos Contract Extension

After returning to Brazil to enhance his fitness ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Neymar has sparked considerable speculation regarding a potential transition from South America to North America, particularly after the conclusion of his contract with his childhood club, Santos.

However, Neymar has opted for an extension following another surgery, which will keep him at Santos through the end of this calendar year. There is speculation that he may consider moving to Major League Soccer (MLS) at that point, especially with his former Barcelona teammate, Lionel Messi, currently under contract with Inter Miami until 2028.

Inter Miami is poised to pursue Neymar, with fellow Brazilian Kleberson—who has experience in the U.S. league through his time with the Philadelphia Union, Indy Eleven, and Fort Lauderdale Strikers—believing a deal could materialize. Speaking in collaboration with BetVictor Online Casino, Kleberson remarked on the possibility of Neymar reuniting with Messi, stating, “Messi wants to bring everyone to MLS! He wants to create a private MLS league!”

Kleberson further noted, “There are rumors suggesting Neymar signed with Santos mainly to remain in Brazil as he prepares for the World Cup. I firmly believe that if he decides to move, MLS is the only league he would consider. I don’t foresee him opting for another league.”

He emphasized that after the World Cup, Neymar’s perspective on his playing options might shift, hinting that if Brazil underperforms, he would not remain solely committed to Santos given his high-profile persona. “I believe he will seek a transition to MLS,” Kleberson added.

Former U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper Brad Friedel has also weighed in on the Neymar-to-MLS discussions, highlighting the potential benefits from both sporting and business perspectives. Friedel noted, “If Neymar is fit, it makes sense because he remains a significant figure in certain markets in the U.S. However, if he struggles with injuries, it could lead to a negative media narrative.”

He suggested that any contract would likely be performance-based, considering Neymar’s injury history. Friedel observed, “Before Messi’s arrival, Miami’s soccer presence was not prominent. His impact has changed that, and Neymar’s inclusion would further enhance visibility. While there are risks, Neymar’s unique talent could captivate American fans. I might lean towards supporting the move.”

Moreover, Kleberson expressed hope that another football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, could also be persuaded to join MLS, potentially forming an iconic team alongside Messi and Neymar. He envisioned, “Imagine the excitement of having Messi, Ronaldo, and possibly Neymar in the same locker room—it would create a dream team!”

Inter Miami has already established itself as a dominant force in North American soccer, celebrating a historic MLS Cup victory in 2025. With co-owner David Beckham at the helm, the club has publicly declared its ambition to emulate the ‘Galactico’ recruitment strategy of La Liga giants Real Madrid.
