Nigeria Triumphs Over Algeria in AFCON QuarterfinalsNigeria Triumphs Over Algeria in AFCON Quarterfinals

This afternoon, Nigeria triumphed over Algeria in the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations. Victor Osimhen opened the scoring with a header shortly after halftime, followed ten minutes later by Akor Adams, who extended the lead to a definitive 2-0. The Sevilla forward has now contributed 2 goals and 2 assists in the tournament, starting four out of the five matches played. Meanwhile, Chidera Ejuke remained on the bench once again, having participated for only twelve minutes in the group stage match against Tunisia.

In the semifinals of this Africa Cup, Nigeria will face Morocco on Wednesday, January 14, at 21:00. If they advance past the host nation, the Super Eagles will compete in the final on Sunday, January 18; otherwise, they will play in the third-place match on Saturday, January 17. Regardless of the outcome, Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams will remain focused on their national team throughout the remainder of the competition.

Nigeria’s victory means that Sevilla will be without the two players for another week, as it now seems nearly impossible for them to return in time for their next league match against Elche on Monday, January 19. Thus, it is expected that coach Matías Almeyda will have Ejuke and Akor available starting from that date, with the aim of having them back in action as they face Athletic Club at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, a match scheduled for Saturday, January 24, at 18:30.
