Norwich City has initiated discussions with Gary O’Neil, Will Still, and Jon Dahl Tomasson as they search for a new manager following the dismissal of Liam Manning.

Earlier this week, representatives from the Canaries met with O’Neil, a former player for the club from 2014 to 2016, to advance their recruitment efforts. Additional talks have taken place with Still and Tomasson.

Manning was relieved of his duties on Saturday after a narrow 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, marking the team’s disappointing record of only one victory out of eight matches played at Carrow Road this season. This result positioned the Canaries at the bottom of the Championship, in 23rd place.

Among the contenders is Jon Dahl Tomasson, the former Blackburn and Sweden manager, who brings valuable Championship experience from his 90-game tenure at Ewood Park. Under his leadership, Blackburn finished seventh in the 2022-23 season, although he was dismissed from his role with Sweden in October following a challenging start to World Cup qualifying.

Will Still, who was recently let go by Southampton after a brief five-month spell, is also in the running. Both Southampton and Norwich were expected to compete for promotion this season, yet both find themselves struggling in the lower half of the Championship table. The 33-year-old Still is recognized for his innovative coaching style, demonstrated during his time in France with Reims and Lens.

Manning was appointed to the position over O’Neil last summer after joining from Bristol City, yet the club has maintained open lines of communication with the former Wolves manager. O’Neil recently withdrew from consideration for a surprise return to Molineux, expressing reservations about the club’s current situation.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly set to appoint Rob Edwards, the current Middlesbrough boss and a former player and coach at Molineux, later this week. O’Neil, who previously managed Bournemouth, has been without a position since his departure from Wolves in December.
