Nottingham Forest has completed the signing of goalkeeper Stefan Ortega from Manchester City. The transfer, involving a fee that could reach up to £500,000, marks a strategic move for the club as they bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Ortega, 33, has been primarily a backup at the Etihad Stadium, currently positioned as the third-choice keeper behind Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford. His experience, gained from being part of a successful Manchester City team in recent years, was highlighted by Forest’s global head of football, Edu Gaspar.

“Stefan arrives here with fantastic experience and a winning mentality, having been part of such a successful team for the past few seasons,” Gaspar stated. “When it became clear that we needed to strengthen the goalkeeper position, Stefan stood out immediately. He will provide excellent competition for our group of goalkeepers and will contribute positively to the team both on and off the pitch.”

This signing comes at a crucial time for Nottingham Forest, especially with their goalkeeper situation impacted by a knee injury that will keep John Victor sidelined for the remainder of the season. Although Ortega has yet to make an appearance for Pep Guardiola’s squad this season, he has previously played 56 matches for City since joining in 2022, playing a key role in their Premier League title win in 2024.
