In the song La petite voix (“The Little Voice”), French rapper Orelsan criticizes Kylian Mbappé’s ownership of Caen FC. Mbappé took over the club in 2024 and holds an 80% stake. Orelsan, who is from Caen, delivers the line: “You’re going to sink your city like the Mbappés.” The track appears on his new album La fuite en avant (“The Headlong Rush”). Mbappé Responds on Social Media Mbappé responded sharply on the platform X. He accused Orelsan of trying to join the club ownership group without investing money.Mbappé wrote:“You’re welcome to come and save the city you love so much. PS: He kept begging to join with 1% without paying because he doesn’t have a penny, but he wanted to look like the little guy from Normandy.” Backlash From Caen Supporters The response drew immediate criticism from Caen fans.Supporter Sébastien told RMC Sport:“We’re stunned. Orelsan is an idol in Caen. If Mbappé thinks he can turn the city against him, he’s wrong. The song is a parody. Taking it literally is risky.” Former Caen defender Brahim Thiam also reacted. He explained on X that the lyric refers to a recurring theme in Orelsan’s music: a fictional “little voice” that mocks everything, including himself.Thiam said:“It’s not personal. It’s a shame to expose the club this way.” Struggles Under Mbappé’s Ownership Mbappé bought 80% of Caen in July 2024 for around €20 million (£17.5m/$23m). At the time, the move was seen as a symbolic return to a club that almost signed him as a child. However, the situation deteriorated quickly. By April 2025, Caen were relegated to the French third tier after a 3–0 defeat to Martigues. It was the club’s first drop from Ligue 2 in 41 years. Fans stormed the pitch with a banner reading:“Mbappé, SMC is not your toy.” Soon after, Caen laid off sixteen staff members. Supporters blamed ownership for the crisis. Christophe Vaucelle, leader of the Malherbe Normandy Kop, summarized the sentiment:“The Mbappé clan bears responsibility. They arrived, stayed invisible, and disconnected from the fans.” Current Situation Caen are currently 10th in the third division. They have won only three of their 13 matches this season, with seven draws and three losses under manager Maxime d’Ornano. Meanwhile, Mbappé continues to excel with Real Madrid. In the 2025–26 season, he has scored 18 goals in 15 matches. Real Madrid lead La Liga and sit seventh in the Champions League group stage. They face Rayo Vallecano next after a 1–0 defeat to Liverpool. Post navigation Senegal continue efforts to recruit Marseille forward Robinio Vaz
