Oscar Considers Retirement Following Health ScareOscar Considers Retirement Following Health Scare

Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar is contemplating retirement from professional football following a health scare, according to sources from ESPN Brasil.

The 34-year-old remains hospitalized in Brazil under observation after experiencing abnormal cardiac reactions during a routine preseason medical examination with his club, São Paulo. During the checkup, the Brazilian midfielder temporarily lost consciousness, raising significant concerns for both Oscar and his family, who are apprehensive about his return to the pitch.

Sources indicate that financial considerations are not influencing Oscar’s decision, especially after 13 years of competition in Europe and China. Furthermore, the player is considering his personal life, particularly as his wife is expecting their third child.

São Paulo has no plans to terminate Oscar’s contract, which is set to expire in December 2027. The club is currently prioritizing the player’s health and well-being over any potential financial implications that might arise from a contract termination.

Oscar rejoined his boyhood club, São Paulo, in December 2024 after an eight-year stint in China, where he garnered significant popularity among fans. The support from the fan base has been evident since the health incident.

On Wednesday, São Paulo president Julio Casares visited Oscar in the hospital, demonstrating the club’s commitment to its player. Additionally, the situation has drawn attention from Shanghai Port, the club where Oscar played for several years, with reports suggesting they have offered support should he require any specific treatment in Asia.
