Oviedo Begins Winter Restructuring with Key Player DeparturesOviedo Begins Winter Restructuring with Key Player Departures

Real Oviedo is making room in its squad for reinforcements in the upcoming winter transfer market, officially announcing the departures of Salomón Rondón and Brandon Domingues. Rondón is returning to Pachuca, where he was on loan last summer, while Domingues will be playing on loan at Górnik Zabrze in Poland. These are just the first of several anticipated changes. Álex Forés is set to finalize a move to Leganés, pending approval from Villarreal, and Moldovan is also expected to depart in the coming days.

Rondón concludes his time at Oviedo after participating in 16 matches, accumulating 1,038 minutes on the pitch and scoring two goals, making him the team’s top scorer. His signing was motivated by a commitment to the president of Grupo Pachuca, Jesús Martínez, contingent on the team’s promotion to La Liga. However, Rondón never garnered significant support from the fanbase, and neither his performance nor the team’s results improved the situation. The arrival of Guillermo Almada further diminished his desire to stay, prompting his return to Pachuca to free up a roster spot and provide flexibility in the salary cap, as he held one of the highest contracts on the team.

Domingues’ departure was also anticipated. He has yet to play a minute in La Liga and only made a brief appearance in the Copa del Rey elimination against Ourense. Górnik Zabrze will take him on loan for the remainder of the season, where he aims to regain the form that initially attracted Oviedo’s interest from Hungary.

With these two exits, Nico Fonseca and Thiago Borbas are ensured spots in the blue squad for the first match of 2026, scheduled against Alavés in Mendizorroza. Fonseca, a midfielder, joins on loan from Club León, while Borbas, a center-forward, arrives from Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil and is awaiting final administrative procedures to begin training with his new teammates.

In addition to Rondón and Domingues, Álex Forés and Moldovan are also nearing exits from Oviedo. Both players have requested their parent clubs, Villarreal and Atlético de Madrid, to terminate their loans in search of more playing time. The Valencian player will join Leganés, while Moldovan is looking at opportunities in Italian football.

They may not be the only ones leaving. Kwasi Sibo, Luka Ilic, and Haissem Hassan are also on the market. Offers are expected for them, and if any meet the expectations of Oviedo’s management, they will be sold. The Ghanaian’s contract expires in June 2026, and there is consideration for a transfer to MLS, with some proposals already received, although a renewal and a move to Pachuca remain possibilities. The Serbian has expressed a willingness to leave, but the club aims to recoup its investment of 2 million euros. In contrast, Hassan has attracted significant interest from Turkey, with firm offers reaching 6 million euros from Trabzonspor, although Oviedo has yet to make a decision and is waiting for better proposals.

The club continues to seek reinforcements across all positions, with the potential for a defender, two wingers, and an additional forward, provided the salary cap allows. The operations center has moved from Spain to Mexico, with Jesús Martínez and his personal advisor, Rafael Monge, in charge of selecting reinforcements for the Carbayón squad.
