Owen Wijndal Receives Three Match SuspensionOwen Wijndal Receives Three Match Suspension

Owen Wijndal has received his punishment: the KNVB has suspended him for three matches, one of which is conditional. Following a serious foul on Wouter Goes during the cup match against AZ (6-0), the Ajax left-back received a direct red card. Consequently, Wijndal will miss the upcoming home matches against Go Ahead Eagles and FC Volendam.

Ajax will have to face the next league matches without Wijndal. The left-back received a direct red card last Wednesday in the match against AZ, resulting in an automatic suspension for the Eredivisie. This means he will be absent in the matches against Go Ahead Eagles and, a week later, FC Volendam at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. However, Wijndal is eligible to play in the Champions League match against Villarreal, which takes place between those two league encounters.

Recent speculation suggests that Ajax may want to transfer the 26-year-old defender this winter, but Wijndal claims to be unaware of any such plans. “I haven’t heard anything myself,” he stated after the match in an interview with ESPN. “So either it’s a lie, or the people who said that haven’t spoken to me. If they’re real men, they would tell me directly. I have no information.” In addition to Wijndal, players such as Anton Gaaei, Oliver Edvardsen, Kian Fitz-Jim, and Branco van den Boomen are also rumored to be on the transfer list.
