omidbasir- According to the BBC, Crystal Palace is contemplating withdrawing from the proposed £50 million deal to acquire Strand Larsen. The Premier League clubs had reached a preliminary agreement for the centre-forward to transition from Molineux to Selhurst Park, contingent upon Palace making a formal bid of £50 million, which has yet to occur. As a result, Palace is now poised to walk away from the negotiations. This situation may also influence the future of Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is in discussions regarding a possible move to Nottingham Forest ahead of the Monday deadline.

Strand Larsen had a productive season last year, scoring 14 goals in 35 Premier League appearances; however, his performance this season has been hampered by his team’s poor form. With Wolves currently at the bottom of the table, the 25-year-old has only managed to find the net once. He remains under contract until 2030, and Rob Edwards, the Wolves manager, has addressed the speculation surrounding Palace’s interest in Larsen.

Edwards stated, “He’s been great; he’s trained really well. He’ll be part of the squad tomorrow, so no change. That’s all I’m focused on at the moment—seeing a player with such determination and a positive attitude. We’re not under any pressure to sell. Our priority is to maintain a strong squad during this period. Unless we believe it’s in the best interest of the football club, no one will leave. There haven’t been any inquiries, and all players have displayed a commendable attitude and a desire to train here. As long as that continues, the situation remains straightforward.”

Earlier this month, the BBC reported that Leeds United had submitted a £33 million bid for Strand Larsen, which was rejected by Wolves. This proposal also included £6 million in potential add-ons, but it remains uncertain if Daniel Farke’s side intends to renew their interest.

Farke commented on Thursday, “We can be quite selective regarding our actions. I prefer not to make public statements about transfers in January, as I find it easier to be transparent during the summer. The January market is always more challenging due to limited options. The club understands my perspective on what needs to be addressed during this window, and they were informed before it opened. I’m reluctant to disclose too much, as revealing our needs could inflate prices in negotiations. However, I can confirm we are in a comfortable situation, and I am pleased to have Facundo [Buonanotte] with us.”

Wolves will face Bournemouth this weekend, seeking to improve their standings, while Crystal Palace will meet Nottingham Forest in what may become a contentious match, especially considering Forest’s interest in Mateta.
