Pellegrini Focused on Valencia Despite Upcoming Derby

Manuel Pellegrini has assessed the upcoming match against Valencia and confirmed several notable absences.
Pau López, Isco Alarcón, and Junior Firpo will not be available. Junior is expected to return after the international break. Ricardo is fit, but Pellegrini prefers not to rush his recovery.

“Our Focus Is Valencia”

Despite the derby approaching at the end of November, Pellegrini stressed the importance of focusing on the immediate task.

“One of the biggest mistakes would be to think about matches that are not in front of us. Our focus must be on Valencia.”

He added that the team has been performing well, but they must replicate that level to secure points. After Valencia, the team will have the international break, followed by a home match against Girona. Both matches are key in the fight to return to European competition.

Praise for Aitor

Pellegrini also responded to recent comments made by Aitor.

“I’m very pleased for him. He is a youth academy product and holds the club record for European appearances. He contributes with leadership and commitment on and off the field.”

He added that Aitor has many years ahead of him and remains an important figure at the club.

On Rotations and Squad Depth

Pellegrini explained that squad rotation remains essential.

“This is our sixth season. We have used rotations in the previous five. To compete in three competitions, you must maximize performance.”

He noted that rotations are based on form and fitness, not obligation. Squad depth allows the team to stay competitive throughout the season.

Ángel Ortiz and Positional Competition

Regarding Ángel Ortiz, Pellegrini highlighted the importance of internal competition.

“Ángel brings great value. We also have Héctor and Aitor in that role. What matters is that players perform when given opportunities, and Ángel has done that.”

Valencia Away Will Be Difficult

Pellegrini warned against underestimating Valencia’s current form.

“It would be misleading to think we will win just because they are struggling. Every match is different. Their situation will create a difficult atmosphere. We need a complete performance to win away.”
