Gerard Fernández, affectionately known as Peque, was the standout player for Sevilla in their recent victory over Osasuna. Matías Almeyda, typically reserved in individual praise, was effusive in his compliments this time. “Seeing players like Peque perform today brings me joy. I spoke with him extensively; he gave his all during preseason, and that excites me. He had a complete match, leaving everything on the field—he dribbled, recovered the ball… he embodies the type of player we aspire to have,” Almeyda remarked.

In a post-match interview with Movistar, Peque described the victory as “very necessary.” After three consecutive losses, the team was eager to turn things around and bring joy to their fans by securing all three points. He acknowledged the challenges the team faced in scoring. “We had our chances, and they did too. Their goalkeeper performed excellently, and we benefitted from the penalty. What matters is that we achieved the win. I’m very happy to bring joy to our supporters and to ourselves,” he stated.

Rubén Vargas scored the decisive goal for Sevilla. “It was crucial to score. We started the second half with that momentum. I’m very pleased that it went in,” he commented regarding his penalty kick. “Winning was essential, particularly at home. The match wasn’t easy after our last three defeats. The team worked hard throughout the week. I’m delighted to secure these three points.”
