The Pochettino Premier League return discussion has resurfaced following recent comments from the United States men’s national team head coach. Mauricio Pochettino has openly stated that he hopes to return to the Premier League in the future.

Pochettino Premier League Return Intentions

Pochettino became USMNT head coach in September 2024, only months after leaving Chelsea. His current priority is preparing the U.S. national team for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, in an interview with the BBC, he admitted that he continues to think about the Premier League.

He described the Premier League as “the best league in the world” and noted that its level of competition remains unmatched. Even though he is enjoying his experience in the United States, he acknowledged that a return to England is appealing.

Pochettino’s reputation grew significantly during his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur. He led Spurs to the Champions League final and came close to winning the Premier League twice. He reflected on that period as one of the most rewarding chapters of his career and highlighted his ambition to win a major trophy.

His time at Spurs was also shaped by his relationship with Daniel Levy, the club’s long-serving executive chairman. Levy stepped down on September 4 after 24 years. Pochettino expressed surprise at the news and praised Levy’s lasting influence on the club. He added that managing Tottenham was a profound opportunity due to its passionate supporter base.

Pochettino also spoke about the effect of Lionel Messi’s arrival at Inter Miami in 2023. He believes Messi has helped elevate soccer’s popularity among young athletes in the United States. According to Pochettino, American youth are now more motivated to choose soccer alongside sports like basketball, baseball, and American football.

As he prepares the USMNT for the World Cup, Pochettino stressed the importance of developing a winning mindset. He explained that soccer has a universal language, and he is working to help players understand the cultural identity of the sport. He believes that meaningful progress is underway.

The Pochettino Premier League return conversation is likely to continue as the World Cup approaches and Premier League clubs evaluate future coaching opportunities.
