Pogba s Return to Monaco Hampered by Fitness ChallengesPogba s Return to Monaco Hampered by Fitness Challenges

omidbasir- Paul Pogba’s eagerly awaited return to professional football with AS Monaco has encountered significant obstacles, primarily due to ongoing fitness concerns. After signing with the club last summer, following the conclusion of his reduced doping ban, the 32-year-old midfielder aimed to rejuvenate his career in Ligue 1. However, Pogba has been sidelined since December 5 due to a recurring calf injury, resulting in his exclusion from Monaco’s Champions League roster for the knockout phases.

In a recent interview with RMC Sport, Mathias Pogba provided a candid assessment of his brother’s current condition. He indicated that the expectations surrounding Paul’s immediate impact may have been overly optimistic, particularly given his prolonged absence from competitive play. Mathias acknowledged that the intense demands of elite-level football have proven challenging for Pogba.

“It’s frustrating, not just for him, but for our entire family. I reminded him that he couldn’t return to peak fitness immediately,” Mathias reflected, recalling the initial excitement over his brother’s move. “We anticipated a stronger comeback, but reality has set in. His body is not accustomed to the high-intensity rhythm of professional football.”

Mathias emphasized the family’s unwavering support, while also expressing a shared frustration regarding Pogba’s physical setbacks. He noted the considerable difficulty of readjusting to the pace of professional football after two years away, highlighting that Pogba’s body is signaling distress due to the sudden escalation in workload.

“We aren’t robots,” Mathias remarked. “Upon returning, it’s essential to proceed gradually; otherwise, the body sends warning signals. This is precisely what Paul is experiencing.”

Furthermore, Mathias disclosed the psychological toll that these circumstances are exerting on Pogba and those close to him. After a protracted legal battle to clear his name and return to the pitch, the recurrence of a muscle injury has been a significant setback for a player eager to demonstrate his continued relevance at the highest level.

“We remain patient and resilient. He will need that patience to reclaim his best form,” he stated. “He is putting in the work, but the mental aspect is becoming increasingly challenging. High expectations lead to enthusiasm, only to be met with disappointment. It’s about continually bouncing back. Balancing the desire to return to play with the body’s imperative to pace oneself is crucial. We must exercise patience and take it one day at a time.”

Mathias added, “We send him messages of encouragement. The rest is up to him to manage. He is experienced in this world, and we are merely providing support; the responsibility lies with him.”

Pogba’s injury has already had notable repercussions for his season. AS Monaco has confirmed their squad for the Champions League knockout stages, with Pogba being a prominent omission. This decision underscores the uncertainty surrounding his return and the club’s necessity to depend on fully fit players for vital European matches.

While the club has publicly stated that they are carefully managing his recovery, the absence of a clear timeline raises concerns among supporters eager to see the 2018 World Cup winner perform at his best again. Currently, Pogba remains entrenched in a cycle of rehabilitation, engaged in a challenging struggle to salvage his season and potentially secure his career at the highest level.
