During a Bundesliga match on Thursday between Augsburg and Union Berlin, the game was momentarily halted for five minutes due to fan protests regarding the scheduling of a rare Thursday fixture.

In the 32nd minute, several objects, including toy balls, were thrown onto the field from the stands when the ball went out behind Augsburg’s goal. Players, substitutes, and staff were involved in clearing the field, allowing play to resume in the 37th minute.

Fans displayed two banners protesting the decision to host a game on Thursday, advocating instead for a return to traditional Saturday afternoon match slots.

In the Bundesliga, midweek games are less common compared to other major European leagues, especially with 18 teams participating in a 34-game season.

The decision to hold a Thursday match was due to the league’s new television broadcast contract, which commenced this season and mandates five different kickoff times for each round of games, as reported by the German agency dpa. This midweek round of fixtures also included early and late matches on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The match concluded with a 1-1 draw after Union Berlin managed to score a stoppage-time equalizer.
