Rangers are diligently working to enhance their squad during the January transfer window, according to head coach Danny Rohl.

Since his appointment in October, this winter transfer period marks Rohl’s first opportunity to make adjustments to the team. “We are working 24/7 to identify potential players,” he stated. “It involves decision making, negotiations, and timing. We have specific players in mind, but patience is essential.”

As a manager, Rohl expressed the desire to secure new players as early as possible but acknowledged that January requires a balanced approach of patience and demand. “You must seize the opportunities available in the market.”

Rohl indicated that left-back is a key area of focus, noting that currently, Jayden Meghoma is the only left-sided full-back available, while three players, including Max Aarons and captain James Tavernier, occupy the right side. The club is reportedly interested in former Heart of Midlothian player James Penrice, who recently joined AEK Athens.

“On the right side, I have good options,” Rohl explained ahead of the pivotal Scottish Premiership clash with Celtic. “Jayden has been solid, particularly defensively, and I’ve noted his improvement. Occasionally, I have played Max on the left, suggesting that it is an area we are looking to bolster.”

Rohl’s experience in the Old Firm derby thus far includes a 3-1 defeat in the Premier Sports Cup against Celtic, managed by interim coach Martin O’Neill, a match that extended into extra time. Currently, Rangers trail second-placed Celtic by three points, while the latter lags three points behind league leaders Hearts.

“We are ready,” Rohl affirmed. “The team is filled with confidence and belief. A strong start will be crucial in this emotional matchup. I’m nearly able to field my best XI, which is a reassuring feeling.”

He elaborated that football hinges on the finer details and the momentum established during the match. “We must aim to gain momentum swiftly in our favor. Our strategy will revolve around overcoming our opponents while maintaining aggression in duels. I seek to see a courageous team that excels defensively within our own box.”

Rohl expressed that winning this derby would be a remarkable achievement. “It would be incredible, but it requires a significant performance. While it is just three points, this game transcends mere numbers due to its emotional significance. If we can assert ourselves early, winning critical balls, it may unsettle our opponents, whereas if they find early success, the home crowd will rally behind them.”
