The Blaugrana have capitalized on Real Madrid’s recent dip in form, reclaiming the top spot in La Liga and finishing 2025 four points clear of their rivals. Following their El Clasico defeat to Xabi Alonso’s side in October, Barcelona has won their last eight league matches.

Marcus Rashford has significantly contributed to this success, netting two goals and providing six assists in the season’s first half. Though he shares left-wing duties with Raphinha, the Brazilian international, Rashford is determined to remain at Spotify Camp Nou beyond the current season after being sidelined at Old Trafford by Ruben Amorim.

Barcelona holds an option to make Rashford’s loan permanent for £22 million at season’s end, and reports suggest the club is contemplating this move to keep the forward for the 2025/26 campaign. Although Rashford may need to accept a pay cut to stay, he has indicated a willingness to do what it takes to avoid returning to Manchester.

In an interview with Spanish publication SPORT, Rashford stated, “What I want is to stay at Barca. It’s the ultimate goal. However, that’s not my sole motivation; I’m training hard and giving my all because our objective is to win. Barcelona is a colossal club, designed to secure titles.”

Reflecting on his integration into the city and club, Rashford remarked, “I’m settling in really well. From the moment I arrived, I felt very welcomed. My purpose here is to assist the team in winning trophies; last season was remarkable, but I aim to replicate that success. I’m completely focused on our goals, and everything has been exceptional with the staff and my teammates. I have no complaints.”

Asked about the pressure of playing for a prestigious club like Barcelona, he acknowledged, “There is pressure, but it’s not negative; it’s the kind that every player craves. I thrive in environments with high expectations; otherwise, it’s challenging to stay motivated.”

Rashford believes he is in an ideal environment to further his career, stating, “I’m in the perfect place to continue my journey as a footballer, so I’m striving to give my best every day and contribute to the team’s victories. We will see what unfolds next summer.”

Barcelona’s head coach, Flick, has praised Rashford’s mentality, noting, “When I communicate with the players, I explain why they may not be starting. Rashford’s response was, ‘You don’t need to explain to me.’ His focus on the team’s success is commendable, and I’m pleased to have him on our side.”

In their most recent league match, Barcelona earned a 2-0 victory against Villarreal, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal scoring decisive goals. As La Liga enters its winter break, the Blaugrana’s next league fixture is on January 3rd against local rivals Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium.

Ending 2025 on a high note, Espanyol will face Barcelona next month, riding a five-match winning streak, including a recent 2-1 victory over Athletic Club.
