The departure of Amorim is expected to provide an opportunity for several underutilized Manchester United players, notably Kobbie Mainoo, who may stand to gain from the club’s decision to dismiss the Portuguese manager after just 14 months in charge.

Marcus Rashford is another player who might be looking to rejuvenate his United career in the upcoming season, especially as the Premier League club seeks a permanent replacement for the former Sporting CP coach.

However, FC Barcelona is fully committed to making Rashford’s loan move a permanent one, following his strong performance in Spain. The 28-year-old has already scored two goals and provided six assists for the Catalan club as they strive to defend their La Liga title.

Currently, Barcelona leads the La Liga table, holding a four-point advantage over their arch-rivals, Real Madrid. The two giants will renew their rivalry this Sunday in the Supercopa de España, after both teams advanced past their semi-final opponents—Athletic Club and Atlético Madrid, respectively.

Barcelona has incorporated a €30 million option to buy Rashford at the end of the season, which cost the club €5 million to include. The decision to make this loan permanent will be beneficial for both the player and the club, with recent surveys indicating that 54.6% of club members support securing Rashford’s services permanently.

Rashford has expressed his affection for both the club and the city since his arrival in Spain last summer. In an interview with Spanish publication SPORT, he stated, “What I want is to stay at Barca. It’s the ultimate goal, but it’s not the reason I’m training hard and giving my all. The purpose is to win. Barca is a huge, fantastic club, built to win titles.”

When discussing his adjustment to life in Barcelona, the versatile forward remarked, “I’m settling in really well at the club and in the city. From the moment I arrived, I felt very welcomed. For me, the reason I’m here is to help the team win trophies; last season was fantastic, but life moves very fast, things change, and the goal is to repeat those successes. I’m totally focused on that. Everything has been fantastic with the staff and my teammates; I have no complaints.”

Playing for a prestigious team like Barcelona comes with significant pressure. Responding to questions about this pressure, Rashford noted, “There is pressure here, but it’s not negative pressure; it’s the kind you crave as a player, the kind I want and have always wanted as a footballer. I can’t be in a place where there aren’t high expectations; for me, it’s harder to stay motivated and give my best at a club where the demands aren’t at their peak.”

Barcelona’s head coach, Hansi Flick, has also praised Rashford’s mentality and approach, stating, “When I talk to the players, I explain why they didn’t play. When I tried to explain to Rashford why he wasn’t a starter, he said: ‘You don’t need to explain to me.’ The important thing is that the team wins and we get the three points. Nothing else matters. This is the right mindset, and I’m glad it’s with us.”

Barcelona will not participate in La Liga action this weekend as they prepare to face Real Madrid in the Supercopa de España. In last year’s Supercopa final, Flick’s squad triumphed with a 5-2 victory in Saudi Arabia, with standout performances from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Alejandro Balde, which secured the club’s 15th Spanish Super Cup title.
