Íñigo Pérez, the coach of Rayo Vallecano, expressed his disappointment after his team drew 1-1 with Getafe, conceding a goal to Mauro Arambarri in the 91st minute. He described the day as “difficult to comprehend” due to another setback in the league.

Rayo Vallecano has now gone eight consecutive matches without a victory in the championship. The loss of two points to Getafe at the last moment has left Pérez visibly shaken. He stated, “It’s a tough day to accept. There isn’t much time right now to clear my mind of what just happened, and we hope a few hours will help us process it.”

He commented on the first half of the match, acknowledging that the team faced challenges as expected but managed to create opportunities and ultimately scored a goal late in the game. “In the first half, we suffered as anticipated. However, within that capacity to attack Getafe, we performed well. We created chances and found the net at the end. The second half is something we will review,” he added.

Pérez also addressed the play leading up to Arambarri’s goal, indicating that he had warned his players moments beforehand about the Uruguayan’s capacity to score from distance. “What everyone is mentioning today aligns with what I had said would happen. It’s not about taking credit; it’s simply that I watch more matches than the players and try to assist them. However, it’s not something to feel proud about right now. I’m not feeling well. I hope that with time, this feeling will lessen,” he remarked.

Furthermore, he discussed the recent signing of Carlos Martín, who has been loaned from Atlético Madrid for the remainder of the season and had the potential to play against Getafe on Friday. “He was involved until the end, but the bureaucratic situation was beyond the coach’s control. His signing was evaluated last summer, but it didn’t materialize. This year, we must remain resilient and persistent in the league.”

In conclusion, he lamented the late equalizer against Getafe: “Sometimes, especially when you are feeling as hurt as I do today, it might be better not to have so much time. Right now, I am grappling with this, and the match against Granada is approaching quickly,” he concluded.
