The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports that Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are currently in competition to acquire the services of Catalan international Sergi Altimira. The Real Betis midfielder’s profile aligns well with the needs of both Bundesliga clubs. At 24 years of age and with an estimated market value of €20 million, he is expected to command a significant transfer fee.

According to the FAZ, RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, is engaged in “advanced negotiations” with Altimira’s representatives. The club aims to enhance their defensive midfield options to alleviate the workload on Nicolas Seiwald, who is also 24. Leipzig has explored options such as Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Rocco Reitz, among others, in their quest to strengthen this area.

On the other hand, Eintracht Frankfurt finds itself in a precarious position administratively following the unexpected dismissal of coach Dino Toppmöller over the weekend. The FAZ report indicates that Frankfurt has only made a modest inquiry about the possibility of loaning Altimira, which places Leipzig in a favorable position in the pursuit.

Marca further reports that Altimira’s current club has been reluctant to release him. Compounding the situation, midfielder Sofyan Amrabat returned from the 2025 African Cup of Nations with an ankle injury, reducing the likelihood that Altimira will be allowed to leave. As a result, he may secure a more consistent starting role after fluctuating between the starting lineup and the bench throughout the season.
