RB Leipzig triumphed over Werder Bremen with a 2-0 victory, thanks to goals from Assan Ouédraogo and Xaver Schlager, allowing the Red Bulls to reclaim second place in the Bundesliga.

The match began with an intense first 20 minutes, where both teams displayed strong attacking intent. Antonio Nusa tested Bremen’s goalkeeper Mio Backhaus with a powerful strike, while David Raum narrowly missed with a free-kick that sailed over the crossbar. Senne Lynen also had a close attempt, his volley skimming just wide following an impressive setup from Romano Schmid.

As the game progressed, Leipzig began to assert themselves, significantly restricting Bremen’s time on the ball. The best chance of the opening half fell to Ridle Baku, who found space in the box but unfortunately dragged his shot wide.

Five minutes later, Ouédraogo tested Backhaus with a low shot from 25 yards, prompting the goalkeeper to make a crucial save. The newly capped German international continued to pose a threat, forcing another save before Leipzig started a series of corners. Christoph Baumgartner had a great opportunity, but his tame shot was directed straight at Backhaus.

Just before halftime, Backhaus showcased his skills again, brilliantly saving Baumgartner’s deflected strike that seemed destined for the far post.

After the break, Bremen emerged with renewed energy, and Schmid forced Gulácsi into a solid save within minutes. A subsequent corner led to Keke Topp heading against the side netting, while Cameron Puertas’ shot also tested Gulácsi.

Leipzig regained their footing around the hour mark but faced a scare as Jens Stage was sent through on goal by a precise pass; however, Yan Diomande executed a superb tackle to deny him.

Moments later, Baumgartner was thwarted by Marco Grüll on the goal line. Leipzig broke the deadlock when Ouédraogo netted a spectacular goal with his weaker left foot from 20 yards, finding the top-left corner and leaving Backhaus with no chance.

The Red Bulls doubled their advantage with ten minutes remaining when Baumgartner won a header from a corner, allowing substitute Schlager to turn and finish into the bottom corner past Backhaus.

Despite Leipzig’s two-goal lead, Bremen continued to search for a way back into the game with several promising chances. Ultimately, the final scoreline may suggest a comfortable victory for Leipzig, but the match was far more competitive, with Bremen having opportunities that could have changed the outcome.
