omidbasir- RB Leipzig triumphed over Werder Bremen with a 2-0 victory, reclaiming second place in the Bundesliga, thanks to goals from Assan Ouédraogo and Xaver Schlager.

The match began with a fiercely contested opening 20 minutes, showcasing both teams’ attacking intent. Antonio Nusa unleashed a powerful shot directly into the arms of Bremen’s goalkeeper, Mio Backhaus, while David Raum’s free-kick narrowly missed the crossbar. Senne Lynen also had a close chance, volleying just wide after a well-executed setup from Romano Schmid.

As the game progressed, Leipzig began to assert dominance, effectively limiting Bremen’s possession. The standout opportunity arrived after 25 minutes when Ridle Baku found space on the right side of the box but failed to convert, dragging his shot wide.

Five minutes later, Ouédraogo tested Backhaus with a long-range effort that required a skilled save. Following this, Ouédraogo continued to press, forcing another corner for Leipzig. Christoph Baumgartner then squandered a golden opportunity when his tame shot was easily handled by Backhaus.

Before halftime, Backhaus showcased his goalkeeping prowess once more, saving a deflected strike from Baumgartner that appeared destined for the far post.

The second half started with Bremen showing renewed energy. Shortly after the break, Schmid forced a solid save from Leipzig’s Péter Gulácsi, and a subsequent corner nearly resulted in a goal when Keke Topp’s header hit the side netting. Cameron Puertas also tested Gulácsi, but the Hungarian goalkeeper remained steadfast.

Leipzig regained their footing around the hour mark but faced a scare when Jens Stage broke through on goal, only to be thwarted by an exceptional tackle from Yan Diomande.

Baumgartner was then denied on the goal line by Marco Grüll, keeping the score level. However, Leipzig finally broke the deadlock when Ouédraogo scored a stunning goal with his weaker left foot from 20 yards, placing the ball in the top-left corner beyond Backhaus’s reach.

The Red Bulls extended their lead ten minutes before time when Baumgartner won a header from a corner, allowing substitute Schlager to seize the opportunity and fire past Backhaus into the bottom corner.

Despite Bremen’s efforts to mount a comeback, Leipzig successfully maintained their advantage. The final score of 2-0 may suggest a comfortable win for Leipzig, but the reality was that Bremen had numerous quality chances and could have easily altered the outcome of the match.
