Goals from Assan Ouédraogo and Xaver Schlager propelled RB Leipzig to a 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen, enabling the Red Bulls to reclaim their position in second place in the Bundesliga.

The match commenced with an intense opening 20 minutes, showcasing attacking vigor from both teams. Antonio Nusa unleashed a powerful shot, which was easily collected by Mio Backhaus in the Bremen goal. David Raum also came close, with his free-kick sailing just over the crossbar. Meanwhile, Senne Lynen’s volley, set up nicely by Romano Schmid, narrowly missed the target.

As the game progressed, Leipzig began to assert control, significantly limiting Bremen’s possession. The game’s biggest opportunity arose at the 25-minute mark when Ridle Baku found himself with space on the right side of the box. However, the German defender’s effort went wide of the Bremen goal.

Five minutes later, Ouédraogo tested Backhaus with a shot from 25 yards, prompting a solid save from the goalkeeper. The newly-capped Germany international continued to apply pressure with another strike soon after, leading to a series of corners for Leipzig. A notable chance for Christoph Baumgartner ended with a tame effort directly at Backhaus.

Backhaus continued to impress with another outstanding save just before half-time, thwarting Baumgartner’s deflected shot that seemed destined for the far post.

After the break, Bremen emerged with renewed energy. Within minutes, Schmid forced a solid save from Péter Gulácsi, and following the corner, Keke Topp’s header grazed the side netting. A subsequent shot from Cameron Puertas again tested Gulácsi.

Leipzig began to regain control around the hour mark but were momentarily caught on the counter-attack by a precise pass that sent Jens Stage through on goal, only for Yan Diomande to execute a remarkable tackle to deny the opportunity.

Baumgartner was again denied, this time by Marco Grüll on the goal line. However, Leipzig took the lead shortly thereafter when Ouédraogo unleashed a spectacular shot from 20 yards with his weaker left foot, finding the top-left corner and leaving Backhaus with no chance.

The Red Bulls doubled their advantage with just ten minutes remaining, as Baumgartner’s header from a corner fell to substitute Schlager, who skillfully turned his defender before firing into the bottom corner.

Despite Bremen’s persistent efforts to mount a comeback, the match ended in Leipzig’s favor. While the scoreline suggests a comfortable victory, it belies the reality that the visitors had several excellent chances to score, indicating a fiercely contested encounter.
