RB Leipzig s Assan Ou draogo Faces Setback with Knee InjuryRB Leipzig s Assan Ou draogo Faces Setback with Knee Injury

RB Leipzig and German national team midfielder Assan Ouédraogo’s recent achievements have been overshadowed by unfortunate news. The 19-year-old talent will be sidelined for the entirety of the 2025 calendar year due to a tendon injury in his knee, as confirmed by his Bundesliga club.

This announcement comes just eight days after Ouédraogo made a memorable debut for the senior national team, and merely two days following his stunning goal, which was nominated for the “Bundesliga Goal of the Season,” against Bremen.

Leipzig indicated that they expect the injury to keep Ouédraogo out of action for “several weeks.” The young player’s inspiring recovery from a challenging 2024/25 season, where he had limited opportunities, seemed to be progressing well. He had made 12 appearances, scoring three goals and providing four assists across all competitions.

Having made his debuts for both the Germany U21 team and the senior national squad this autumn, Ouédraogo was being considered as a potential candidate for the upcoming summer World Cup. Leipzig’s sporting director, Marcel Schäfer, expressed concern over this unfortunate turn of events in a club statement.

“It’s an incredible shame that Assan is out of action right now,” Schäfer remarked. “He was on a very good path, had made great strides in recent weeks, and had become a German international. This injury is all the more bitter for him and also for us as a team. We are keeping our fingers crossed for Assan for a speedy and full recovery.”
