Real Betis Pursues lvaro Fidalgo to Strengthen MidfieldReal Betis Pursues lvaro Fidalgo to Strengthen Midfield

During his press conference ahead of the match against Valencia, Manuel Pellegrini emphasized the distinction between public speculation and the club’s internal assessments. While the option to sign a central striker for Real Betis has become nearly essential in the upcoming winter transfer market, Pellegrini believes that the team currently lacks more in creative midfield positions than in attack. Hence, the Sports Management led by Manu Fajardo is pursuing the signing of midfielder Álvaro Fidalgo.

The 28-year-old Asturian has emerged as one of the most skilled and talented players in Liga MX while playing for Club América. After developing in the youth system of Asturias and spending time in Real Madrid’s academy, Fidalgo went on to play for Rayo Majadahonda and Castellón before joining América, initially on loan and subsequently as a permanent transfer. Since February 2021, he has made 227 official appearances for the Mexican club, scoring 22 goals and providing 30 assists.

Standing at 1.74 meters tall, Fidalgo excels in the midfield, contributing to gameplay either in a central role or just ahead as an attacking midfielder. His contract is set to expire on June 30, which has prompted Betis to expedite negotiations to secure his signing ahead of competitors such as Real Sociedad. Reports from Fox Sports in Mexico and El Desmarque in Spain have confirmed this effort. Although Fidalgo was scheduled to face Necaxa early this morning, he was unexpectedly removed from the matchday squad, indicating his imminent transfer.

According to specialist websites like transfermarkt.com, Fidalgo’s market value is approximately 8.5 million euros; however, the impending conclusion of his contract may allow Betis to acquire him at a more favorable price. In recent years, players such as Guido Rodríguez and Diego Laínez have made their way from Club América to Heliópolis. While Betis continues to aim for a striker before the transfer market closes on Monday, they are simultaneously working to enhance their midfield with the addition of Fidalgo.
