Real Betis has officially confirmed the signing of Álvaro Fidalgo through a video shared on its social media channels. The 28-year-old midfielder arrives at the verdiblanco club from América de México, with the transfer fee reported to be slightly under two million euros. He has signed a contract for four and a half seasons, extending until June 30, 2030.

Fidalgo marks the first addition to the squad managed by Manuel Pellegrini during the current winter transfer window. His acquisition was completed discreetly, taking advantage of the fact that his contract with the Mexican club was set to expire on June 30. This transfer was expedited ahead of schedule due to the long-term injuries of Isco and Lo Celso, who have limited options for the coaching staff in the midfield area.

Other clubs, including Real Sociedad and Lazio, had also expressed interest in Fidalgo. However, the sports management team led by Manu Fajardo successfully convinced him to accept the proposal from Betis. Last night, he was excluded from the squad for his team’s match against Necaxa, signaling that his departure was imminent. This Sunday, he held a farewell press conference before flying to Spain to begin his new adventure with Betis.

Álvaro, who was nurtured in the Asturian youth football system, joined Real Madrid’s academy at a young age. He progressed through the ranks at La Fábrica, having a brief loan stint with Rayo Majadahonda before making his debut with the first team in the Copa del Rey. Following his time with Castilla, he transferred to Castellón and then to América, where he became a fan favorite under the guidance of Santiago Solari, who had previously worked with him at Madrid’s youth levels. Five years after joining the Águilas, Fidalgo is embarking on a return journey, now ready to don the Betis colors. He is expected to arrive in Seville tomorrow.
