Agustín Lleida stepped forward to address the situation. The General Director of Real Oviedo took responsibility following the winter transfer market and admitted to errors in the club’s sporting management. “We have made mistakes one after another. I have apologized, and I do so again,” he stated emphatically.

Lleida acknowledged that the club may not have been adequately prepared for its return to the Primera División after a 24-year absence. “It is possible that we were not ready,” he admitted, while defending the project and the owner’s support. “We have an owner filled with enthusiasm, who has invested millions. We have the capacity to turn this around.”

The executive explained that the transfer market was significantly influenced by the need to safeguard the club’s economic future. He noted that “60% of teams that get promoted end up being relegated again” and reminded that “we have nearly two million as our limit, and we cannot jeopardize next year’s salary cap.”

Lleida aimed to convey a clear message to the fans, dismissing any thoughts of surrender. “If we thought we were going to be relegated, we would sell Hassan and Viñas and generate 17 million. We are going to fight,” he asserted.

Roberto Suárez, the sporting director, defended the work conducted and the coordination with the group in Mexico. “Every year has been conducted in the same manner,” he explained, although he acknowledged that the Spanish market has been “poor and disappointing”, with many players unwilling to leave their clubs.

Regarding the squad, Lleida remained cautious. “Whether it is better or not, we will see,” he stated, but highlighted the internal optimism and confidence that the team will improve its standings.

Looking ahead, the club made it clear that the continuation of Guillermo Almada as head coach for the next season is currently not under consideration. However, there was official confirmation of Dani Calvo’s contract renewal, a strategic move considering both Primera and a potential Segunda División scenario.
