Resolution of Daniel Peretz s Transfer to SouthamptonResolution of Daniel Peretz s Transfer to Southampton

According to a report from the local newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt, the complications hindering Hamburg goalkeeper Daniel Peretz’s transfer to Southampton have been satisfactorily addressed. An effective training strike by the Israeli international has prompted action, resulting in an agreement between his parent club, Bayern Munich, and Hamburg to terminate Peretz’s loan prematurely. Consequently, Peretz’s transition to England is now clear.

The report highlights that, aside from Hamburg’s desire to secure a replacement for Peretz, the club aimed to recover the €500,000 loan fee stipulated in the initial loan arrangement. Bayern Munich has reportedly agreed to this request, facilitating the official termination of the loan.

Sky Germany further reveals that the EFL Championship club will remit a €400,000 loan fee to Bayern as part of the arrangement. Additionally, Southampton will have the option to permanently acquire Peretz through an €8 million buyout clause. Bayern had previously secured Peretz from Maccabi Tel Aviv for €5 million in August 2023. However, due to limited playing opportunities, Peretz’s market value has diminished from a peak of €5 million to approximately €2 million over the last two and a half years.

Throughout his tenure in Germany, Peretz has made only four appearances in the Bundesliga. During the 2024/25 season, he started three consecutive league matches in place of the injured Manuel Neuer between matchdays 13 and 15, conceding five goals in those games.

He has also started four games in Germany’s domestic cup, including two for Hamburg this season, and made one Champions League start for Bayern while substituting for Neuer in December 2024.

Following his appearances in December, Bayern secured Köln goalkeeper Jonas Urbig to eventually succeed Neuer during the January 2025 transfer window. After Peretz declined a loan move in January 2025, Urbig assumed considerable playing time in the spring and solidified his position as Neuer’s successor.
