In 2021, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney executed a remarkable takeover of the then National League club Wrexham. Under their stewardship, the Red Dragons have experienced a historic ascent in North Wales, now competing in the Championship with aspirations toward the Premier League.

The venture also includes notable A-list personalities, such as Eva Longoria and Kate Upton, alongside investors from the Mexican football club Necaxa. Their journey is chronicled in a documentary series that complements the acclaimed production ‘Welcome to Wrexham.’

In January 2025, Reynolds and McElhenney expanded their football portfolio by acquiring Colombian club La Equidad. Plans for a comprehensive rebranding of this institution were swiftly announced, resulting in the establishment of Internacional de Bogota, commonly referred to as Inter Bogota.

Reynolds took center stage to unveil the club’s new kit and logo, featuring a humorous skit showcasing an elegant white-and-gold jersey. The Tyler-Portis group is reported to have invested between £11 million and £15 million ($20 million) in the acquisition of Inter Bogota. Their objective is to modernize the club’s image and enhance its global outreach. A new head coach has been appointed as part of the implementation of a more sustainable business model.

Inter Bogota is gearing up for its inaugural season in 2026, with its first match scheduled to occur at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali against America, although a specific date for this fixture has yet to be confirmed.

Club president Nicolas Maya expressed enthusiasm for entering a new chapter, promising increased investment in both the men’s and women’s teams. He envisions Inter as “the first sports club in Bogota to have a city brand to represent it globally.” Maya reflected on the club’s year, stating, “This year has been a mix of positive achievements and not-so-positive issues, particularly on the sporting side with insufficient results.”

However, those challenges are now in the past as Reynolds and his team are poised to infuse their unique brand of creativity into the Colombian capital. They have made extensive financial and emotional investments across various projects.

In a previous appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mac articulated their passion for football, stating, “We just fell in love with the sport and the idea of being part of a community that shares that love. We are deeply invested in the entire experience.”

He also acknowledged the inherent challenges of professional sports, describing it as a notoriously fickle industry: “They’ll kill you. They’ll murder you!”

Recently, Reynolds immersed himself among Wrexham supporters during their FA Cup third-round clash against Nottingham Forest, experiencing a dramatic range of emotions as Phil Parkinson’s side triumphed in a penalty shootout. Wrexham is set to face Ipswich in the next round.
