Rising Star Miljevic Eyes Opportunities with Inter Miami and Racing

omidbasir- The 24-year-old footballer, born in Miami and of Bosnian Croat descent, has spent his entire professional career in South America. However, opportunities to make a move to North America are emerging.

Inter Miami, the 2025 MLS Cup champions, reached out to him at the beginning of the year. Led by David Beckham and the team’s management, they are developing recruitment strategies as they prepare to transition to a new, purpose-built stadium in 2026.

Miljevic could be a vital part of this new chapter, as his performances have attracted attention from multiple clubs, including the possibility of teaming up with eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi. He shared with ESPN, “On December 31 or January 1, I received a call indicating that there was interest and that they wanted me.”

He emphasized the need for caution, noting that while there has been interest, there is no formal offer yet: “They mentioned that they would send an offer to the club soon, but did not discuss any numbers.”

In addition to Inter Miami, Argentine giants Racing Club have shown interest in Miljevic, further diversifying his options. The club’s esteemed history makes it an appealing destination for any player considering a move.

“At this moment, I owe my commitment to Huracan since I am still under contract. They have treated me exceptionally well this past year. However, every player aspires to progress in their career,” Miljevic stated. “Would I like to play for Racing? Absolutely. It represents a step forward, and I am excited about the prospects ahead.”

He also mentioned interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia but reiterated his focus on maintaining continuity at Huracan, emphasizing that players must carefully consider their next steps.

In contrast to Inter Miami’s interest, Racing has taken a more proactive approach. Miljevic received a call from head coach Gustavo Costas, and while discussions have occurred regarding potential numbers, no agreement has been finalized yet.

“Receiving a call from the coach is significant when making a decision because it comes from the leader of the team, especially from a prestigious club like Racing… it’s very enticing,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, Inter Miami is busy reinforcing their roster, recently signing Canadian goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, the 2025 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, on a one-year deal with a 12-month extension option. They are also linked with Argentina international midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, who could integrate seamlessly with fellow countrymen Messi and Rodrigo De Paul, especially with the World Cup on the horizon.

However, Lo Celso’s potential transfer could be costly, which positions Miljevic as a more economical option for Inter Miami. His young age makes him a valuable addition for both immediate and future needs, and his U.S. birth means he wouldn’t occupy an international roster slot.

Last season, Miljevic made 42 appearances for Huracan, contributing eight goals and eight assists, which caught the attention of U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino. He received his first senior call-up in January, participating in two matches against Venezuela and Costa Rica, where he registered an assist.

Regarding his ambitions for the upcoming home World Cup, he stated, “I believe I have a chance, and I am eager to play in the World Cup. Every child dreams of it, and it’s incredibly motivating to receive consideration from someone like Mauricio Pochettino.”
